Who we are…

Michael D’Angelo is the lead grower at D’Angelo Gardens in Old Westbury, NY.

As a child, he first learned the skills of sustainable gardening directly from his grandfather, Giovanni, who learned them in turn from his own father, Gennaro. Since then, Michael has spent over 20 years perfecting his craft, traveling and working on farms and organic gardens across Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain. In 2019, he returned to New York and started D’Angelo Gardens, where he now shares his love of sustainable gardening and agriculture with his wife, Stella, and their daughter Lily.

Outside of his work at the family gardens, Michael also teaches growers important techniques and principles of sustainable gardening. Over the past seven years, he has designed and built numerous permaculture gardens for both residential use and for commercial spaces, with projects ranging in scale from raised garden beds to large-scale community gardens. Through his consultation services, Michael hopes to lead the local transition of large-scale producers, farmers, landscapers, and individuals toward a greener future that will keep us fed and nourished for generations.

When working with nature, and not against it, anything is possible.
